TOTOCARE Support Group_
‘Toto’ is a Swahili pet word for a child. As the name TOTOCARE
suggests, our primary objective is care and support of children, more so
the orphaned and the vulnerable.
TOTOCARE is driven by the belief that every human being deserves a happy childhood free from lack of basic necessities (food, shelter, health and education.) Since 1995 TOTOCARE has assisted children who have been abused, abandoned, neglected, orphaned or made vulnerable (including the many who are infected with or have been affected by HIV and AIDS). Since its inception 17 years ago, TOTOCARE has reached over 500 orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC) through our intervention. Whilst there is always more to do, our reward comes with each young person who exits our services and becomes part of a positive, safe environment. Our target group is school age orphans and other vulnerable children (age 4 - 19). In total, have passed through our program. Currently,82 are in primary school, 36 in high school, 40 in colleges and university. Its not always easy to keep track once they leave college but we believe majority of those who have been through school, are engaged in gainful employment. Although the activities of the group were de-linked from those of the school, Nanyuki Preparatory School still remains an integral part of our program. As our key partner, all the children under our care attend this school for their primary education (nursery to class 8). This makes it easy to provide our services in a central location and is also convenient as the school has hostel facilities which cater for the very needy cases. |
"He who lends the poor lends me. I am the father of the fatherless and the husband to the widows". says the lord of hosts." |
TOTOCARE is group dedicated to sustainable support for children. |
